In April 2017 the government brought in the apprenticeship levy for employers with a pay bill of over £3 million per year. The apprenticeship levy is a mandatory levy paid for and reported via an employer’s PAYE process (alongside tax and National Insurance payments). The levy fund must only be used for activity directly related to apprenticeships.
